“There Is No Lose.  Everything Is Either A Win, Or A Lesson”

If you know me, you’ll know I tend to latch onto quotes.  From here on out, each newsletter will house a short quote or thought up top as the subtitle - not always tied to a topic, just something that felt worth carrying into the day today.

This particular quote, indubitably cliche, resonates for me today.

Okay, back to bulls…

Quick one for you

About 1 in 5 bulls won’t pass a fertility test.

Most producers don’t find out until calving… when it’s too late.

What I see on farm.

“Good bull, worked last year.”

→ Turns out with cows→ Underperforms→ No one knows until months later

That’s the risk.

Here’s the problem

A bull doesn’t need to be infertile to hurt you.He just needs to be subfertile.

That looks like:

  • Late calves

  • More open cows

  • Lighter weaning weights

Quiet losses. Expensive ones.

The fix (simple)

Test your bulls before turnout. Every. Year.

That’s it.

It’s a quick check of:

  • Semen quality

  • Structure

  • Overall breeding ability

Think of it as insurance on your calf crop.

If you’re turning bulls out soon and haven’t tested yet — now’s the window.

Less Noise. Better Decisions.

As Promised.
